Free online violin tuner

Play one open string at a time, with the bow or by plucking, and the tuner shows the nearest string and whether it is too high or too low, in cents (hundredths of a semitone).

It listens through your microphone only while it is switched on. The sound is analysed on your device; nothing is recorded or uploaded.

Free, no sign-up, works on phones. Nothing you play is recorded.

Violin tuner

Open strings, low to high: G D A E. Fine tuners are easiest; ask your teacher before turning the pegs. Bow or pluck one string at a time. Sound is checked on this device only; nothing is recorded or sent.

How to use it

  • Press Start tuner and allow the microphone when your browser asks.
  • The open strings from lowest to highest are G3, D4, A4 and E5.
  • Small changes are easiest with the fine tuners on the tailpiece. Ask your teacher before turning the pegs: turning them can pull the bridge out of line, so it needs checking afterwards.
  • A quiet room works best. The reference pitch tool can also play a steady A to tune to by ear.
